Do Something!

As clever as the title of this blog entry is, I can't take all the credit. It is taken from the following Spurgeon quote.

"Brethren, do something; do something, do something! While societies and unions make constitutions, let us win souls. I pray you, be men of action all of you. Get to work and quit yourselves like men. Old Suvarov's idea of war is mine: `Forward and strike! No theory! Attack! Form a column! Charge bayonets! Plunge into the center of the enemy! Our one aim is to win souls; and this we are not to talk about, but do in the power of God!'" Charles Spurgeon.

Now why am I even talking about this? Well, I was at Costco and had passed out a few tracts. We were getting ready to leave and I really wanted to get rid of all of my tracts. That's when I spotted the stacks of Twilight books. In the same instance the great words of Spurgeon, "do something", came to mind. So I did. On the top book of each pile, right inside the cover, I placed a million dollar bill tract. Now when these books are purchased, someone will get the Gospel message at a time of God's choosing. I didn't have to overcome any fear of man by approaching someone. I wasn't up on a box preaching. I just did something. My encouragement to you is to do something, anything that will put the full Gospel into someone's hands. A well written, cleverly placed tract fits that bill.

Psalm 67:2 (New International Version)

2 that your ways may be known on earth,
your salvation among all nations.

  1. Excellent post pare! More often than not we as Christians tend to get discouraged with the idea of "witnessing" for whatever reason - be it fear of man, lack of motivation, etc. We also tend to look at witnessing as something verbal, but it can come in so many forms like you mentioned.

My girlfriend and I like to put tracts on the gas station pumps where they normally place those brochure holders for for the gas company credit cards. Fits perfectly plus someone is bound to come across it!

  2. That's a great example of a little creative thing we can do in witnessing. Thanks Virg.
